The most beautiful baby names for boys and girls according to science have been revealed. Have you ever met someone named “Matt” and said, “Wow . . . what a beautiful name?” That’s not a knock on Matts. I ask because it seriously might be the MOST beautiful name in the English language. A baby website called My1stYears.com took 400 of the most popular baby names in the U.S., and had a linguistics expert whittle it down to the top 50 for boys and girls. But they didn’t rank them yet. To do that, they used data from a study in 2018 that looked at which types of sounds we find the most beautiful or pleasing. According to the results, the most beautiful name for a boy is “Matthew” and for girls, it’s Sophia.”

The rest are ranked and will be mentioned below. According to the website: “Principles of linguistics such as iconicity (or ‘sound symbolism’) and the research emerging from this field reveals that some words – and therefore names – sound better than others. Though these findings aren’t universal, there is a wealth of research out there to support that meaningful associations with names are shared across languages around the world.”

They broke them up between the U.K. and the U.S. The most beautiful baby names for boys and girls in the United States are ranked below.
