Brick Street Bagels, a popular bagel pop-up known for attracting crowds every weekend at the Buttery in the city's south end, is coming to South Boston later this year. Owner Jordan Renouf has signed a lease for the property at 371 W. Broadway, at the corner of E Street, for Brick Street's first permanent location.

The new bagel shop will offer customers plenty of seating. It will also allow Renouf and his team to expand the menu with open-faced sandwiches, coffee, and maybe even those bagel pockets everyone loves.

To finance the opening, Renouf has launched a crowdfunding campaign on NuMarket. According to an Eater Boston report, Renouf has set a goal of raising $100,000 for necessary renovations and infrastructure improvements to the building. The structure is one of the oldest in South Boston and needs quite a bit of electrical, plumbing, and other work to prepare it for opening.

Renouf hopes to open the new Brick Street Bagels location in May, provided that renovations proceed according to plan. Until then, he'll continue selling his bagels out of the Buttery.

As the Eater Boston report notes, bagels have long been synonymous with Boston, thanks to established names like Kupel's in Brookline and Rosenfeld's in Newton. Some newcomers have emerged, like Bagelsaurus in Cambridge and Exodus in Roslindale. The public's response to them and others, like PopUp Bagels in Seaport and Brick Street Bagels, confirms the growing demand among Bostonians for a variety of bagel options.
