According to an announcement from the T, service on the Ashmont branch of the MBTA's Red Line will be suspended in April for construction work.
To accommodate commuters during the service interruption, the MBTA will offer free shuttle bus service between JFK/UMASS and Ashmont from April 1 to April 9. From April 10 to April 30, shuttle trains will provide service between the stops.
NBC10 Boston reported the following adjustments per the MBTA:
- Weekday shuttle buses between JFK/UMass and Ashmont will operate every three to five minutes throughout the day.
- Weekday shuttle buses between Ashmont and Mattapan will operate every five to six minutes throughout the day.
- Weekend shuttle buses between JFK/UMass and Mattapan via Ashmont will operate every eight to 12 minutes throughout the day. Some shuttles will terminate service at Ashmont.
MBTA said the Ashmont closure is necessary to allow critical track work to take place on the Ashmont branch and Mattapan line. The MBTA will also use the scheduled closure this month to make several infrastructure improvements at Ashmont. These enhancements include walkway replacements, track and power upgrades, stairway improvements, power switch box replacements, duct bank replacements, and other station projects and safety inspections.
During this change of operations, riders can use the Fairmount Commuter Rail Line service.
