Disney World’s Splash Mountain to be re-themed as ‘Princess and the Frog’ ride
Splash Mountain will be getting a makeover at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Central Florida and Disneyland in California.
The Disney Park Blog announced Thursday that Splash Mountain will be changed to a “Princess and the Frog” theme. The move comes after an outcry on social media to change the ride, but the company said this plan has been in the works since last year .
Splash Mountain currently stars the animated characters from “Song of the South,” the 1946 film long criticized for stereotypes of “spiritual” black men and its seemingly nostalgic view of the antebellum South.
A petition calling for the re-theme went viral earlier this month.
