There is absolutely no denying the love, impact, and popularity of video games. And since it's launch in 2017, Epic Games Fortnite has become one of the biggest video games in the world. According to a ranking of the most-played games, Fortnite ranks #2, based on average monthly players with 240 million. The only game higher is PUBG with 285 million monthly players. But it's not all good news when it comes to Fortnite. In 2022 Epic Games agreed to pay $520 million dollars. This over allegations that they used deceptive practices to trick people into buying items like costumes, dance moves, and "loot crates." Good news, you may be entitled to a Fortnite refund.

The case against Fortnite

In addition to using deceptive practices, government regulators said that Epic Games made it easy for kids under the age of 13 who played the game to rack up charges without their parent's consent. That violated a federal law protecting children's privacy. It was also found that when parents disputed unauthorized charges with their credit card companies, Epic locked their Fortnite accounts.

Who gets a Fortnite refund?

So here's what you need to know. According to the FTC, you can apply for a refund if you were charged in-game currency for unwanted purchases between the time period of January 2017 and September 2022. You can also apply if your child charged your card for in-game purchases without your knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018. And finally, if your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you made a complaint to your credit card company about unwanted charges.

How to get your refund and how much will I get?

To apply for the refund, you can file a claim HERE. You'll need a claim number or your Epic Account ID in order to apply. The deadline to apply is Jan. 17, 2024. As far as how much you can get, the FTC says it will depend on several factors, including how many people file a claim.
