Love is in the air. If you've been in any store since Christmas, you've seen pink and red everywhere. Valentine's Day is coming, and Massachusetts has been named the most romantic state for Valentine's Day.
Massachusetts named the most romantic state
The survey was done by betting site JeffBet, to find the most romantic states in the US. What they did was analyze the number of average monthly Google searches for Keyword related to romance, Valentine's Day, and love. They then identified and ranked the states with the highest monthly searches per 100,000 people. Ok, now that the technical stuff is out of the way, here's what they found.
The results
#1 - Massachusetts was the most romantic state with 1,848 average searches. This includes 638 searches for "Valentine's Day," 269 for "engagement rings," and 179 searches for "florists near me."
#2 - New York got an average of 1,809 Google searches with 616 searches for “Valentine’s Day,” 270 searches for “engagement ring” and 220 searches for “florists.”
#3 - New Jersey, with 1,690 average monthly Google searches including: 584 for “Valentine’s Day,” 252 for “engagement rings” and 51 for “romance movies.”
#4 - Virginia, whose slogan is “Virginia Is For Lovers,” had 1,652 average monthly searches. This includes 611 for “Valentine’s Day,” 235 for “engagement rings” and 62 for “roses near me.”
#5 - North Carolina with 1,629 average monthly searches. North Carolina searches 605 times for “Valentine’s Day,” 247 times for “engagement rings” and 50 times for “romantic restaurants” each month.
I will say, as someone who loves romance, the bar is set pretty low on this study. When romance searches are basic like Valentine's Day, engagement rings, and florists, I'm going to question your results. Romance is so much more. I know that yes there are people who consider flowers and Valentine's Day romantic, but they feel pretty basic to me. To me, the most important component to romance is personalization. Sure roses are nice, but if you get me a bouquet of flowers that you specifically picked out for me based on their meaning or my favorite color, I would appreciate it that much more. But honestly, romance really differs from person to person. I guess I've just watched too many rom-coms and Kdramas so the bar is set pretty high for me!
