The city was named after Edward Everett, who served as U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator, and was the 15th Governor of Massachusetts. He also served as President of Harvard University.

Everett is a small yet vibrant city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts.

It was first settled in 1630 and incorporated 200 years later as a town and then a city.

Those are just some of the basics, but here are some facts you may not be familiar with. I Can't Believe I Didn't Know This About...Everett.

Everett wasn't originally Everett

Everett was originally part of Charlestown, and later Malden. It separated from Malden in 1870. In 1892, Everett changed from a town to a city. On December 13, 1892, Alonzo H. Evans defeated George E. Smith to become Everett's first Mayor.

Lots of movie scenes have been filmed there

Richie's Slush was originally famous for meatballs

Richie's Slush location on the Parkway was in its hey-day, long before the slush became an iconic product, they were as famous for their homemade meatballs, their Beanzie’s fried dough and their unique cutlet sandwiches as they were for the slush.

Everett used to be a dry town

Did you know that Everett did not allow the sale of liquor by the glass until 1933. For years, Everett voted to remain dry by a large margin.

Home to Teddie's Peanut Butter

Teddie peanut butter is the family business. The Hintlian family makes the peanut butter the same way they made it when they started in 1925. The business was originally in Boston, but moved to Everett in 1960 where I'm sure you see the famous Teddie sign that has been sitting atop the building on Santilli Highway ever since.
