Taylor Swift fatigue is real. Regardless if you’re a Swiftie, a casual fan or not a fan at all, we have to admit the continuing coverage of Taylor Swift supporting her boyfriend Travis Kelce has taken over. Whether it’s on social media or the game itself, we have been exposed to Taylor Swift more than any of us asked for or expected. But the question is, what is the REAL reason people seem to have a problem with it? This is a question we posed to our listeners and it seems there is an overwhelming theme.

It seems as if, the real issue isn’t necessarily with Taylor Swift the human being. The issue seems to be with the media coverage and the NFL’s way of exploiting Taylor to make a few bucks. According to Front Office Sports: Taylor Swift has designated a “brand value” of $331.5 million for the Chiefs and the NFL, citing data from Apex Marketing Group. This is quite the jump from previous years and years that NFL viewership had shown a bit of a decline from 2021 to 2022 and beyond. So it seems there is definitely an interest in keeping Taylor in the forefront of as many games as possible, no matter how much it may annoy us.

So how do we feel about the Taylor Swift coverage here in Boston? To find out, we polled our listeners and as you can expect, the question created a rather large divide. However you feel, one thing is for sure: The Super Bowl is bound to be one of the highest rated, if not THE highest rated EVER. Let’s take a look at some of the very passionate responses to the Taylor and Travis madness.

  • Mookie Finesse: "If I wanted to see Taylor Swift I'd buy Taylor Swift ticket"

Mookie has a passionate opinion here. He’s clearly coming from the perspective of a true NFL fan by saying “When I watch football I want to watch FOOTBALL if I wanted to see Taylor swift I would buy Taylor swift ticket 🤷🏽‍♂️ and the fact the prices sky rocket everywhere she at is insane especially for the people who don’t care about her or care to see her.”

Ravens Fans Tell Taylor Swift "You're Ruining Football"

After the Chiefs 17-10 win over the Ravens in the AFC Championship, some unhappy Baltimore fans told Taylor Swift that she is "ruining football".

  • Nicole Smith "I hate they make her out to be the bad guy"

Nicole is a fan who is on the side of…Taylor isn’t asking for the attention. She just wants to show up and support her boyfriend. I hate they make her out to be the bad guy like she is asking for the attention and the cameras to be in her like a Kardashian. She is just watching the game.”

Travis Kelce responds to Taylor Swift's recent spike in NFL backlash

KC Chiefs star Travis Kelce reacted to the recent hate that his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, has been receiving from some angry NFL fans.

  • Sam Weeden "I'm just tired of hear about her on the tv, radio, social media..."

Sam is just over the coverage. Sam just wants to watch the halftime show and “guys hit other guys.” “My brother in law is obsessed also. Just every time we turn around it’s something about her. While she may be a good human, we just want to know who is headlining the Super Bowl halftime show and see some guys hit other guys 🤣🤣🤣.”

  • Rebecca A Byrne: "Why can't people just be happy for others"

Rebecca is quick to point out how much Travis wants her support. He wants her at the games. If not, she most definitely not be there. “Travis wants her there. Why is this all on her? He knows when he throws up the heart hands people are going to think it’s for Taylor, cameras are going to go to Taylor. He pulled her into the camera after they won Sunday multiple times. Why can’t people just be happy for others.”

Travis Kelce Says He Invited Taylor Swift to One of His Football Games: 'We'll See What Happens'

Travis Kelce wants Taylor Swift on the bleachers at his next game.

  • Jess Scully "I'm a Taylor fan but I'm OVER seeing her all the time"

Here is an interesting take. Jess is actually a Taylor Swift fan but agrees the coverage is over the top.  “Im a Taylor fan BUT im over seeing her all the time…..im there for the game. This isnt the first celebrity/athlete relationship, which is my biggest issue. Plenty of other musicians that date athletes, its just over done. Had they not blasted it constantly then we would probably have a different view of it.”

  • Benny Diep "I'm a football fan and I still enjoy the coverage"

Benny brings up a different point. Taylor Swift is bringing an entirely different audience to the NFL so why is this a bad thing? “I might be in the minority but I’m a football fan and still enjoy the coverage. Taylor Swift bring all the female fans to the party so how do you hate.”

The 'Taylor Swift Effect': A Wake-Up Call for Sports Venue Design - HOK

Bill Johnson explores 'The Taylor Swift Effect' and its impact on the evolving landscape of sports entertanment and stadium architecture.

  • Jenna Lundin "Because people hate seeing a woman win"

Jenna seems to think there is a bias when it comes to women succeeding in life in general. And anyone targeting a group of people like the Swifties, you need some self reflection…”Because people hate seeing a woman win 🤷🏼‍♀️ like it’s not her fault they’re showing her and it’s mind blowing how outraged people are getting over less than three minutes of air time during a THREE HOUR GAME. And for the people coming for the “swifties” who are literally a group of people supporting other people, maybe it’s time for some self reflection.”

Taylor Swift 'generated a brand value of over $330MILLION for the NFL'

It might be hard to truly put a number on the financial impact that Taylor Swift's romance with Travis Kelce has had on the NFL. But over $300million seems like a good place to start.

  • Beth Chadwick Gomes "I think people just like to crab"

Beth seems to think this is a regular thing. When an athlete dates a celebrity, we regularly see their partner at games, so how is this anything new? “No different then when they show other players families when they make a play. I think people just like to crab.”

The 15 Best Celebrity-Athlete Couples of All Time

As the Taylor-Travis excitement reaches a fever pitch, let us take a little trip back through time and context and remember that they're not the first such pair to light up social media.

  • Deana Miele "Keep football separate"

Deana is coming from the perspective of a Taylor Swift fan. She admits to being an intense one but that the media is too much. “I do have to say I’m a pretty intense Taylor fan.. I’ve been to a lot of her concerts. As much as I love them together- yes the media is way too much. She’s just so big in the industry and I think the NFL is getting a lot of views on it cause of her popularity, almost as if they’re using her to their advantage in my opinion. Shouldn’t be that way. Just keep football separate.”

Super Bowl champion scoffs at people 'b----in & complaining' about NFL's Taylor Swift coverage

Two-time Super Bowl champion Damien Woody doesn't care for those complaining about the NFL's focus on Taylor Swift and her relationship with Chiefs star Travis Kelce.

  • Jennifer Terminiello "People are jealous"

Jennifer comes from the perspective of NOT being a Swiftie, simply a sports fan. She points out how positive Taylor is and that it’s great she’s supporting her man. “Honestly as a sports fan and not a swiftie. People are jealous. I love her and Travis together. She brings so much to young girls as they all look up to her, as she is a remarkable woman. Her supporting her man should be a positive thing it’s not her fault the camera people at the games always go to her to see her reaction be that good or bad she brought her followers which is way more than the NFL to the NFL so there’s that. She’s done good by her man and NFL. Could they show her less absolutely, but they always sho celebs at games and she is the biggest one so be prepared on Superbowl Sunday especially if she makes it back in time from Tokyo ❤️”
