Delaware To Honor Frontline and Essential Workers Tonight By Shining Blue Lights
Across the nation, businesses, government buildings, social media profiles, and everything in between has been showing their support for frontline workers and essential staff. One of the trends that has caught on not only in our country but across the whole globe, being seen in the United Kingdom and beyond, is the shining of the blue light.
Delaware now joins the movement of gratitude and thanks to all those working so hard in these tough times. The First State is asking people, businesses and government officials, and anyone who would like to participate, to please shine a blue light tonight (Monday, May 4, 2020) in support of frontline and essential workers. Starting at 7pm, tourist attractions and hotels across the state will shine a blue light in honor of all those serving the state throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Photos will also be posted online, encouraging participants to post a picture themselves wearing blue and using the hashtag #ThanksDE .
Governor John Carney, in full support of this effort said, “From healthcare workers to the police officers, firefighters, EMTs, grocery store workers and transit drivers, these folks have stepped up to protect and provide for the rest of us during a challenging time. This effort, organized by the Delaware Tourism Office, is a small but fitting tribute to them.”
Arounf 7:45pm, some of the major attractions in Delaware lighting up the night with all blue will be The Grand Opera House and Hilton Wilmington-Christiana in New Castle County, along with the Monster statue at Dover International Speedway and the Rehoboth Beach bandstand.
In addition to these popular attractions throughout the state of Delaware, many restaurants are joining in on the movement, including Limestone BBQ and Bourbon, Stone Balloon, Eggspectation, Buffalo Wild Wings, and all of the High 5 Hospitality group whom will also be accepting donations to feed frontline workers.
La Baguette Bakery & Catering, Dover is also accepting donations to feed first responders and frontline workers.
La Vida Hospitality (Crooked Hammock Brewery, Fork & Flask and Taco Reho) is working to provide support and resources to food banks, local shelters, nonprofit organizations and community groups.
