Lil Baby Honored With His Own Day In Atlanta

Lil Baby has been awarded with his own day in his home city of Atlanta, Georgia.  Sunday (November 13) is officially being recognized as Dominique “Lil Baby” Jones Day going forward.

“November 13th Is Officially Dominique ‘Lil Baby’ Jones Day In Atlanta !! Thank You,” the rapper wrote on Instagram while sharing several photos from the ceremony.

The rapper was born and raised in Atlanta’s Oakland City neighborhood. He was recognized for his philanthropic efforts and immensely successful hip-hop career. In 2020, the rapper pledged to donate the $1.5 million of what he earned from his Grammy-nominated song “The Bigger Picture.” That’s the song that he performed at the 2021 Grammys. It was released in June 2020 in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

“I got 1.5 million dollars to donate off of ‘Bigger Picture,’ the rapper tweeted at the time. “I want the money to go we’re [sic] it’s needed.”

In March 2020, the hitmaker returned to his alma mater Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, Georgia where he donated $150,000 to the My Turn Scholarship fund.

It’s just one of the many accolades the rapper has received in the past year. The “My Turn” emcee accepted the Quincy Jones Humanitarian award at the Black Music Gala back in September.

“To even be acknowledged in music, let alone by a role model like Quincy Jones and the Black Music Action Coalition,” Lil Baby said in his acceptance speech per HipHopDX. “I honestly didn’t know what a humanitarian award was, but as I looked into it and I started reading, I understand I’m actually a humanitarian.”

“Not only have you made music history and impacted the course of modern Hip Hop, but you use your platform to give back to the community in a meaningful way. And that’s what it’s all about,” Jones stated in a letter that was read by his son Quincy Jones III at the award show.
