Drake Speaks Out On Astroworld Lawsuits
Drake was a surprise guest during Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival in 2021, which tragically took the lives of 10 people. Since Drake was a performer at the show, he has been looped into the lawsuits concerning the 10 deaths and the hundreds of concert attendees injured.
However, according to a motion filed by the Toronto rapper’s legal representation, he claims that he had nothing to do with the safety measures that resulted in the deaths and injuries.
“Mr. Graham did not receive any security briefings, was not informed of any crowd control issues, injuries or deaths in the crowd, or any stop show orders at any time either before or during his 14-minute performance,” Drake’s attorneys wrote. Per HipHopDX, Drizzy’s legal team added that the festival organizers “confirmed under oath that Mr. Graham was not involved in any planning,”
Travis Scott on the 2021 Astroworld Tragedy
Scott is not facing any criminal charges for the festival and was acquitted last June.
“Travis Scott’s deposition is typical legal procedure. What is not typical is how the media continues to focus on him despite being cleared of any wrongdoing by extensive government investigations, including by the Houston Police Department,” Scott’s spokesperson Ted Anastasiou said in a statement, noted HipHopDX.
The Houston native was held in a deposition for eight hours following the 2021 tragedy.
Anastasiou further noted, “Travis is fully cooperating with the legal process while remaining committed to his tour in support of his record-breaking album, ‘Utopia,’ and his charitable efforts to support at-risk communities.”
In an interview with Charlamagne The God back in 2021, he opened up about how the community has suffered due to the tragedy as Astroworld takes place in his home city of Houston.
“It gets so hard because, you know, I always feel connected with my fans,” Scott said at the time. “I went through something, and I feel like fans went through something, and people’s parents went through something. And it really hurts.”
Civil trials are to begin on May 6.
