My Penguin Friend is the story I didn't know I needed. So one day I was in bed scrolling on TikTok as one does, and saw a video of a guy who goes by Kind Penguins (@PudgyKindness). Well an interaction between Kind Penguins and another guy who goes by @out_on_a_lim had me all in my feelings and making plans to hit the movie theatre. Here's more on that conversation.

My Penguin Friend Meets Kind Penguins

So Kind Penguins is a creator who reaches out to streamers who have little or no followers. He gives them a follow and has a conversation with them. It turns out that the guy with no followers (@out_on_a_lim) was a cancer researcher, a writer and producer, and has an independent movie that he’s hoping people will go check out. This is the type of interaction on social media that gives me hope that it's not all a cesspool of waste. Here's their conversation.

My Penguin Friend The Movie

My Penguin Friend looks really sweet. Here's what it's about: "Inspired by a true story; an enchanting adventure about a lost penguin rescued from an oil spill, who transforms the life of a heartbroken fisherman. They soon become unlikely friends, so bonded that even the vast ocean cannot divide them." (IMDB)

Producer Jonathan Lim On Needing Positive Stories

In an interview with The Collision, Jonathan Lim talked about the need for positive stories. He said that negative news sells and rises to the top, but we need more positive news to balance it out. He went on to say, "Positive stories of hope, triumph, friendship, love, kindness, and compassion are everywhere if we look for them. We would love to be able to focus on the positive. We have a number of movies that have different themes, but they are all about what unites us as human beings and stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things, whether they’re based on true stories or inspired by true stories, like My Penguin Friend."

My Penguin Friend is in theaters now.
