Mass General Brigham Job Cuts Continue in Second Round of Layoffs for 2025
Mass General Brigham (MGB), the state’s largest health system and private employer, has initiated a second round of layoffs for 2025. These layoffs are part of the system’s plan to avoid a projected $250 million revenue shortfall over the next two years, according to NBC10 News Boston.
MGB President and CEO Dr. Anne Kilbanski notified staff on Monday, March 10, that additional termination notices would come this week. The health system did not state how many of its more than 80,000 employees would be affected. The first round of layoffs began last month to shore up the health system’s budget, which is facing a significant operating deficit.
“This decision was reached by clinical, academic, and administrative leaders from across our system after thoughtfully considering the current health care landscape and our poor financial performance over the past several years,” Klibanski wrote to staff in a memo obtained by NBC10 News.
“We recognize the impact that this difficult decision will have on our impacted employees, and Mass General Brigham is providing market-competitive severance packages and benefits coverage to them. We are grateful for the contributions of these colleagues and the value that all our employees bring to our organization each and every day,” MGB noted in a separate statement to the media.
