Somerville Announces Street Restrictions, Programming Changes for PorchFest
Somerville PorchFest is returning on Saturday, May 10, but this year’s event will implement new programming and security measures designed to maintain safety for all visitors.
During PorchFest, bands perform on the front porches of homes, and residents walk around and listen to various performers. The live music event brings thousands of people to Somerville’s streets each year.
CBS News Boston reported that the new changes being implemented this year include a new application process, restricting band performances to specific streets, and providing a dedicated team to monitor safety and support logistics.
The following streets will not be eligible to participate in PorchFest due to new safety regulations:
- Broadway
- Cedar Street
- Central Street
- College Avenue
- Elm Street
- Highland Avenue
- Lowell Street
- Powderhouse Boulevard
- School Street
- Somerville Avenue
- Summer Street
- Walnut Street
- Willow Avenue
This year’s PorchFest will take place on Saturday, May 10, from noon to 6 p.m.
- Noon–2 p.m.: West Zone (West of Willow Avenue)
- 2 p.m.–4 p.m.: Central Zone (Central Street to Willow Avenue)
- 4 p.m.–6 p.m.: East Zone (East of Central Street)
The deadline for band applications is Thursday, April 10. Learn more about the event on the Somerville Arts Council’s website.
