‘Matrix 4’ Officially in the Works
The Matrix celebrated its 20th anniversary earlier this year, so what better way to honor the super-successful sci-fi movie franchise than by expanding it once again.
Per Variety, a fourth Matrix movie is officially in the works, with Lana Wachowski tapped to write and direct the film. Both Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss have been confirmed to be in the film as Neo and Trinity. The film is currently slated to begin production in early 2020.
In a statement, Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich said, “We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana. Lana is a true visionary—a singular and original creative filmmaker—and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”
The Matrix franchise is comprised of five films (three in wide-release and two direct-to-video titles) and three different video games. The three wide-release films – The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions – have grossed a total of $1.632 billion at the box office worldwide.
