The Real Housewives Franchise is Expanding
This franchise has been a massive hit with women and men who aren’t afraid to admit they watch the show (that would be me). The Real Housewives has included cities such as Beverley Hills, Orange Country, Atlanta, New Jersey, Washington D.C, Miami, Dallas, Potomac, Salt Lake City and the newest Dubai. Each show has the same theme which is crazy women never getting along.
Now the franchise is expanding to a different country. The Real Housewives are expanding to Africa. According to Varity.com, there will be a Real Housewives cast “set in Nairobi and Pretoria, with several others in the pipeline. Independent production company Provoco is currently filming the 14-part series in Pretoria, while filming will commence on the Nairobi version in September with Kenyan producers Young Rich Television.”
If your expecting to see this show on Bravo in America, it will not happen. Yet. NBC Universal held a summit in Cape Town, Africa. The outcome of this summit was to expand the franchise in the African market.
Ana Langenberg, who is a senior VP of NBC Universal Formats stated: “We are so proud to build on the continued success of ‘The Real Housewives’ franchises across Africa. The way each version faithfully embodies the spirit of the city, people and rich cultures it showcases connects with audiences across the region and the diaspora. It was such a magical moment to bring our production partners together with Multichoice for our summit in Cape Town to connect, collaborate and map out more versions we can add to the family.”
Watching crazy women flaunt their wealth is a concept that captures audience’s attention. According to screenrant.com, the ratings are huge. The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills premier in May of 2022 had 1,151,000 viewers. I was one of those viewers. The show is a thoughtless show that captures your imagination for an hour.
