Dunkin’ is a staple in the New England area. “America Runs on Dunkin'” is literally their slogan and it’s one that many of us live by on a daily basis. Many of us have rituals like drinking iced coffee all year round, even in the negative zero temperatures. When it comes to getting your coffee and donuts at Dunkin’ on a daily basis, there are several unwritten rules that every patron MUST follow OR ELSE. We way or else because bad bad things could happen to you. Now are we being a bit dramatic? Absolutely! HOWEVER, when we asked people their thoughts about ordering from Dunkin’ many of you were very passionate about these 14 things to the point where if you don’t follow them, it could make your experience a bad one.

Now, this is by no means telling you what to do or what to order. This is a simple lesson in ordering and Dunkin’ etiquette. It’s more so for your fellow friends who are most likely also in a rush and also in desperate need of their coffee and donuts. These rules are to ensure everyone at Dunkin’ has the fastest, most efficient experience possible. Follow them, life will be much better for you and for your fellow Dunkin’ friends.

These rules apply for both the Drive-Thru AND for going in the store. They are more so for Dunkin‘ stores in general. From ordering procedures, to basic consideration for your fellow man, these are 17 of our favorites that we found when asking hundreds of you your opinions. If you feel we’ve missed any, please feel free to let us know. We can definitely add to this list in the future. And for those of you who will learn from this, you’re welcome! Remember, America ABSOLUTELY Runs on Dunkin’.

  • "Pay attention in the drive thru line."

Thank you Ilizabeth for this suggestion. “Nobody saying you can’t be on your phone, but don’t be an iPad kid. FOCUS.”

  • Order ahead on the app! So much easier

Okay, so we all know many of these things can be avoided if you just order ahead on the app. Anna says “There is no reason to hold everyone else up while you order for 4 with 4 completely different configurations and then count out exact change at the window at 7:30 in the morning.”

  • From a former Drive Thru employee: KNOW WHAT YOU WANT

Savonna says “KNOW WTF YOU WANT”  Simple as that. Don’t make everyone behind you (and the employee) wait while you decide if you want jimmies on your donut or cream in your coffee.

  • If you're ordering more than 2 coffees, you should go inside

This one can be quite controversial. Many can’t go inside because they have kids in the car. However, it would be much faster for those who just have one or two coffees if you took your large order inside OR ordered ahead.

  • If there's an issue with your order, GO INSIDE TO FIX IT!

Don’t hold up Drive-Thru lines with your order fixing. According to Carlos: “don’t hold the drive thru line while they re do your mocha latte machiado witrh 19 sugars 6 splenda 1 coconut pump , half caramel pump 7/16 pump of lime juice and 11 ice cubes in a small cup.”

  • Have your money ready!

Another way to keep the line moving: Make sure you have your money ready when you’re in line BEFORE you get to the front.

  • Don't SCREAM at the Drive Thru speaker before you get there!

Wait until you get UP to the speaker before you speak into it. And DON’T SCREAM! This helps your employees and anyone around you.

  • If you order food, order that BEFORE your drink

This is one many don’t think of. It gives the workers more time to prepare the food while they’re making your coffee which is faster.

That was from Abby Sohl on Facebook.

  • Pay it forward when you can

Okay this obviously can’t be done a lot HOWEVER when you have it, share it. You have no idea how much paying it forward can make someone’s day. Try it once.

  • Big Order? Don't Hit Up the Drive-Thru

Both Gabby and Ashley had things to say on this. If you’ve got a minivan full of the soccer team, ordering 10 things is kind of a middle finger to everyone behind you in the drive thru. Same with complicated orders like “sandwiches for the entire crew.” I think we can agree, max 3 people for a drive thru order.

  • Be Nice!

Brian has a point, a little kindness goes a long way. “Say thank you, even if you’re just picking up a mobile order app and don’t interact with anyone. Those people are hustling and have a tough job. Be grateful and spread positivity!”

  • Make Sure Your Window Can Roll Down

Apparently this has happened to someone in front of Kris before. “If you have to open your door at the drive through then just go inside!”

  • You're a New Englander! Act Like It

Sure, it may be the height of summer right now, but Cher wants to make sure you don’t forget your roots when ordering Dunks in the winter: “Make sure you’re wearing shorts when you go get your iced coffee during a blizzard!”

  • Another One About the App

We covered app ordering a few tips ago, but Erin wanted to make sure you were aware of one other aspect about the app! “If you’re paying with the app make sure it’s reloaded BEFORE you get in line!”
