The GetUp Crew

We all have a lot going on in life, and sometimes things can get kind of heavy. Sometimes we need a pick-me-up. That thing that lifts your spirits and puts a smile on your face. Most times you don’t have to look too far to find great things happening. This week, I want to share some of Boston’s best stories that will definitely put a smile on your face.

Why so negative?

There is so much negativity in the world, and on our screens. One report says  it’s estimated that about 90%   of all media news is negative. Think about all the things that you watch during the day. TV news, print news, even just scrolling through social media. So much of it is seeping into our brains. Do we really need that much negativity in our lives? Absolutely not.

The power of positivity

The good news is that some positivity can change all that. What if we made a conscious effort to consume more positive news. Actually seek it out and let that seep into our brains? Those little changes can make a huge difference in the way we look and exist in the world.

Survey says…

There are actually 7 scientifically proven benefits to consuming good news.

  1. It reduces stress and anxiety – “Regular consumption of good information can positively reduce anxiety and shift mindsets.”
  2. It encourages people to stay more informed – Stories “that provided a solution to a problem type of journalism also saw that people were more interested and more influenced to want to make a difference themselves.”
  3. It can boost your mood and relationships – “positive affect, happiness, and life satisfaction peaked when participants shared their positive experiences with their relationship partners.”
  4. It creates greater engagement between people – “People are more likely to discuss and share with others around them good news stories.”
  5. It promotes optimism and increases heart health – “Consuming positive news stories decreases stress levels and can increase your overall heart health.”
  6. It allows people to adapt more effectively to challenges – “When we simply focus on the solution rather than the problem could make us realize that perhaps our issues or worries have resolutions rather than giving in to hopelessness.”
  7. It empowers people to give back to others – “Consistent good news absorption can also further empower people to not only stay informed but take more humanitarian action in their communities and beyond.”

All that said, let’s get into some good news right in our backyard with some of Boston’s Best Stories!

  • Kristen Kish is the new host of Top Chef

Top Chef is one of my favorite shows in the world, and in all their 20 seasons, she’s been my favorite. I think she’s going to do a tremendous job and I can’t wait for season 21 this fall! I had the chance to attend a small, private event with Kristen several years ago when she was working in Boston. I still dream about that chicken breast she cooked for us.

  • Gillette Stadium is getting an upgrade

Sounds like good news and positivity to me!

  • What a way to celebrate your 97th birthday!

Now this is a lesson in living life to the fullest!

Nothing runs like a Deere. But a 97-year-old Massachusetts woman is running a close second.

  • Drake got very Boston while in Boston

Drake hugging Jason Tatum was the joy I didn’t know I needed this week!

As a proud Cape Verdean myself, it was nice to see Drake holding up the CV flag that a fan threw onstage.
