Top 10 Farmers Markets in Massachusetts, Ranked.

The Billerica Community Farmers Market has done it again! For the third year in a row, they’ve claimed the top spot in Massachusetts in the America’s Farmers Market Celebration. This national event, running from June 1 through July 31, invites people across the country to vote online for their favorite farmers markets. And guess what? Billerica's Farmers Market came out on top! The competition was fierce, with markets from all over the state vying for the title. But when the votes were tallied, Billerica was number one in Massachusetts. Canton Farmers Market snagged second place (my hometown!) and Tewksbury Community Market came in third. Crystal Thomas, the president of Billerica Community Farmers Market, couldn’t be more thrilled and told the LowellSun.com: “We want to thank the residents of Billerica and the surrounding towns,” she said. “They come out every week to support our local farmers and small businesses. It’s because of them—and our amazing volunteer board members—that we’re number one. Their support helps our farmers and local small businesses continue to prosper. And that’s really what matters most.” The Billerica Community Farmers Market is a relatively new fixture, but it has deep roots. It all started in March 2021. The original Billerica farmers market, beloved by the community for years, was passed down to a new group of passionate locals. These folks were determined to keep the tradition alive, and they’ve done just that—bigger and better than ever! Every Monday afternoon from June through October, you can find the market buzzing with activity at 793 Boston Road. This isn’t just any farmers market. It’s a full-on community event! Picture this: multiple farms selling fresh, local produce, crafters showcasing their handmade goods, food trucks serving up delicious eats, and entertainment to keep the whole family happy. There’s even special activities for the kids! It’s a perfect way to spend an afternoon, and it’s clear the community loves it. Crystal Thomas still can’t believe how far they’ve come. “We didn’t imagine four years ago that we’d have a bustling market with up to 40 vendors. Being voted number one in Massachusetts? It’s like a dream come true. We are so grateful for the support," she told the Lowell Sun. The America’s Farmers Market Celebration is a big deal. It’s the only annual ranking of the top farmers markets in the U.S., and it’s entirely decided by public vote. Since 2008, this event has been shining a spotlight on the important role farmers markets play in our communities. These markets aren’t just about selling food—they’re about bringing people together, supporting local farmers, and making our communities stronger. Farmers markets have always been vital parts of our towns and cities. They’re where we connect with our neighbors, meet the people who grow our food, and support local businesses. In recent years, they’ve gained even more recognition as essential parts of our economy and culture.
