Traveling by car - happy couple in love go by cabriolet car in sunset time

Memorial Day weekend will be a busy one as 39.2 million people are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home, of that, nearly 35 million will be on the road.

This represents an increase of 8.3% over 2021, making the travel volumes almost on par with 2017.

In the last year, air travel has increased 25%, the second-largest increase since 2010.

“Memorial Day is always a good predictor of what’s to come for summer travel,” said Paula Twidale, senior vice president, AAA Travel.

“Based on our projections, summer travel isn’t just heating up, it will be on fire. People are overdue for a vacation and they are looking to catch up on some much-needed R&R in the coming months.”

If you’re planning to hit the road, it’s always a good idea to get your vehicle road-trip ready with a thorough vehicle inspection.

Over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, AAA anticipates fielding over 425,000 calls for assistance.

Get your vehicle’s key components checked, such as the battery, fuel system, tires, brakes, and fluid levels, and make sure your emergency kit is fully stocked.

So where is everyone headed this year to unofficially kick off summer?
