It’s that time of the year again when Twitter rediscovers Amerie’s ’05 hit “1 Thing.” However, this time, some Twitter users are claiming that the reason Amerie’s mainstream success was cut short is all because of Queen Bey.

Let’s break it down. Basically, when Amerie came out with “1 Thing” which was on the singer’s sophomore album, Touch, her sound which is often described as “go-go” ended up being used by stars like Beyoncé and J Lo at the time. Now, the reason why Beyoncé is getting brought up into this debate is that some claim that Beyonce’s “Crazy In Love” is all too similar sound to Amerie’s “1 Thing” and Bey is being accused of “hijaking her sound.” The reason for the similar sound is because they were produced by the same producer, Rich Harrison. Harrison at the time also produced hits for Toni Braxton, Mary J. Blige, and Beyonce’s Destiny’s Child mate Kelly Rowland.

However, a quick Google search debunks this whole theory and clears Beyoncé. “Crazy In Love” came out in 2003, two years before Amerie’s “1 Thing.”

It’s still fun to see the Beyhive and Team Amerie defend their favorite artists respectively but at the end of the day, it was just the same producer who had a roster of great singers at Columbia Records back in the early 00’s.

Take a look at what Twitter has to say about the comparison:
