Olivia Rodrigo live in Boston

Olivia Rodrigo Live in Boston

Olivia Rodrigo was live in Boston at the T.D. Garden last night (April 1). She performed the first of two sold out shows and will be back at the Garden tonight (April 2). I’ll be honest, this was not a show I sought out to attend. My friend is a big fan and got two free tickets courtesy of a mutual friend so she asked me to join her. I figured, why not? I did like Olivia’s music and think she is crazy talented. Not to mention, I had heard the show ended early so it wouldn’t affect my bed time too much. I also had heard the show was pretty good from previous reviews so what did I really have to lose?

Olivia’s Performance

Olivia performed for about an hour and a half and did not disappoint her 20,000 screaming fans. Seeing as the average age of her fan base is probably around 15, my friend and I were definitely on the older end of the crowd. But somehow, we did not feel left out. I mean, maybe we didn’t have on enough sequins or cowboy hats but I think we fit in just fine. She performed over 20 songs, most of which from her latest album “Guts” which is the name of the tour. Most of the time, it was hard to hear Olivia herself over the screaming of the young girls singing her music. That being said, it was still fun to watch.

What to expect tonight

For those of you attending the show tonight, I did learn a few things that may help you navigate the show the best way possible. Be prepared for your ears to hurt and for your kid to lose their voice BUT it’ll be well worth it. The show was fun and Olivia Rodrigo proved why she’s the superstar that she is and is still becoming.

  • 1. If you or your child has sensitive ears, BRING EARPLUGS

Let’s just say, the crowd gets LOUD. It will be extremely sensitive to any ears no matter your age. If you have young children, be prepared. Or, if you’re a little older like this TD security guard gentleman, maybe bring some ear plugs.

  • 2. The show starts promptly at 7:30 and ends right after 10pm SHARP (Olivia comes on right before 8:30)

The great thing about this show is, Olivia is aware of the age of her fan base. She doesn’t drag her show out super late and allows for her younger fans to get home at a relatively decent hour. Be prepared for an opening act Chappell Roan. Olivia takes the stage RIGHT at 8:30.

  • 3. Her fans know EVERY WORD, so be prepared to not be able to hear much of what Olivia is singing

If you’re one who wants to really hear the artist sing, you may be a tad out of luck. Her fans literally know EVERY WORD of EVERY SONG. And they sing EVERY SONG. So many times you will hear the screaming over the actual singing.

  • 4. Olivia and her all female band are extremely talented

From the keys to the drums to guitar, Olivia has an all female band and they play their asses off. With her all female opening acts as well, Olivia seems to be shining a light on the future of women in entertainment. Her dancers are all women as well.

  • 5. Olivia really can sing, and you have to appreciate her talent

When you can finally hear Olivia sing, you realize she is EXTREMELY TALENTED. Not to mention she writes the majority of her songs. Her relatable content makes her a fan favorite with teenage girls who have ever gone through heartbreak. If you don’t have an appreciation for her now, you will after the show.

  • 6. Be aware of where the restrooms are AND the liquor stations

I was wondering if alcohol would be served at this show. Thankfully, it was. BUT, the women’s bathrooms were VERY busy. Stake out where your closest bathroom is and try to take a break during any show down time.

  • 7. I actually had fun, you will too

Regardless of anything, you will have a good time. Olivia genuinely loves her fans and shows it throughout the night. Now, I did have to stream the LSU vs. Iowa game at one point during the night, but it was NOT from boredom. I genuinely had a great time watching the show AND the joy Olivia brought to her fan base.

  • 8. Olivia's set list (in case you want to keep track or know when to leave early)

Okay here it is. She performs over 20 songs and the song you think will be last, isn’t. Yes she performs “Good 4 U” toward the end, but it’s NOT the final song. Here is the official set list.
