Are Wedding Costs In New England High?

(Editorial Note: An earlier version of this article forgot to list Maine as a state in New England. My apologies to Stephen King and his terrifying army of sewer clowns. Anna Kendrick gets no apologies as she knows what she did)

This isn’t going to surprise anyone who lives in New England, but this is one of the most expensive regions in the country to live in, and even less of a surprise is it’s one of the most expensive regions to get married in. In an earlier blog, I highlighted what I consider to be the most unnecessary wedding expenses, but this time I’m focusing on how expensive even the necessary expenses are. So what makes wedding costs in New England so high?

Why Wedding Costs In New England Are So High

  • The Venue The venue comes in at a whopping $11,200 on average. This price is sure to be higher in Massachusetts, where venues can be booked from one to three years in advance. If your engagement survives that, then get ready for the next expense.
  • The Engagement Ring The engagement ring costs around $5,800 on average. I think this is one of the few wedding-related expenses that is worth it since it’s something you may very well wear for the rest of your life…or at least until you find your husband in bed with your sister and her cousin. But before any of that might happen, you still have the fun of getting married, and what is a wedding without music?
  • A Live Band A live band costs an average of $3,900. Is it worth it? As a fan and a musician, I can say there’s nothing better than live music. But is it worth $3,900 to hear a bunch of divorced dads plod their way through a litany of 50-year-old songs? Yes, it actually is.
