Taj Jackson Raises Money To Fund Docuseries About His Uncle Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson’s nephew, Taj Jackson, wants to “get the truth out there” about his uncle.
Taj recently sat down with Billboard for an exclusive interview about his aspirations for the docuseries that he wants to make about his late uncle, Michael Jackson.
The 45-year-old son of former Jackson 5 member Tito Jackson defended Michael in the midst of HBO’s Leaving Neverland documentary premiering where two men, Wade Robson and James Safechuck, allege that Michael sexually abused them as children.
“I knew I had to be someone out in front fighting for my uncle,” Taj said. He has created a GoFundMe account to fund his own Michael Jackson documentary series and has raised more than $114,000 of his $777,000 goal so far.
Taj believes that it’s up to him and his family to protect Michael’s legacy, particularly as Leaving Neverland’s director Dan Reed never approached him or Michael’s estate to present their side of the story.
“Michael was probably the best person that I will ever meet. He had a healing factor to him and the biggest heart and soul. When you were around him, nothing else mattered in the world. All your troubles and all of your pain were gone. Even when my mom passed away, it felt like I was going to be okay because of him,” Taj said.
“I know some people will never believe that and that’s their right. But I can tell you the people that were around him believe it — everyone from Elizabeth Taylor to Diana Ross. They knew his heart. I find it very interesting that the ones that have never met him have the most negative things to say.”
Taj claims that he’s responsible for getting Robson into Michael’s 2009 memorial, and he now feels betrayed.
Taj said that if he found out that any of the allegations were true that he would document it.
“If I found one piece of evidence that was a hundred percent indisputable, then yes. I’m all about justice. Integrity is everything for me,” Taj said.
