Tory Lanez Proves He Cleared Pretty Ricky Sample
As we previously reported, Spectacular accused Tory Lanez of “stealing” Pretty Ricky’s “Grind On Me,” as well as “Your Body.” On Monday (June 8), Lanez spoke with The Shade Room and proved that he cleared the Pretty Ricky samples.
During Lanez’s conversation with TSR, he produced “the receipts ” that showed that the singer-rapper got clearance for “Your Body.” However, Spectacular didn’t get paid for the sample because the publishing company Sony/ATV and the songwriters were paid.
Lanez’s “Yessir,” which featured the sample of Pretty Ricky’s song “Your Body” appeared on the artist’s Chixtape 5 mixtape. The documents that Tory Lanez shared with TSR show that the record was cleared and it also breaks down who has what percentage of the sample.
Lanez also revealed that Slick’em, Baby Blue, and Pleasure P were slated to be featured on the track. He also mentioned that Pleasure P was apparently in the studio when Lanez recorded “Yessir,” for Chixtape 5.
Chixtape 5 was released last November and it sampled songs from other artists, including T-Pain, Ashanti, Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Snoop Dogg, Mario, and a myriad of other artists, who were also featured on the tracks alongside Tory Lanez.
Prior to Spectacular’s accusation, Tory Lanez tweeted about his frustration with Akon giving his “Loved Up Remix” sample to another artist.
“So what y’all telling me is…Akon gave up the [“Loved Up Remix”] Sample to someone else!?!?? And not me?!???? I’m going back to bed man,” Lanez tweeted
“[Tory Lanez] you should have just stole it like Grind ON Me and Your Body. Why stop now…Just keeping it 2 Virgils,” Spectacular replied.
