Drake & The Weeknd AI-Generated Song Submitted For 2024 Grammys Consideration
It’s been a while since Drake and The Weeknd officially collaborated on a song, so news of a song of theirs getting a 2024 Grammy consideration comes as a surprise to fans. It might come as a surprise to Drake and The Weeknd too. That’s because the track was created using artificial intelligence (A.I.).
According to the Recording Academy, the viral Drake and The Weeknd A. I. song “Heart on My Sleeve,” is eligible for a Grammy nomination since the lyrics were not created using A.I.
“I knew right away as soon as I heard that record that it was going to be something that we had to grapple with from an Academy standpoint, but also from a music community and industry standpoint,” Harvey Mason, Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, told The New York Times.. “When you start seeing A.I. involved in something so creative and so cool, relevant and of-the-moment, it immediately starts you thinking, ‘OK, where is this going? How is this going to affect creativity? What’s the business implication for monetization?’”

Earlier this year, The Recording Academy released a statement on the rules involving A.I. and Grammy submissions.
“Only human creators are eligible to be submitted for consideration for, nominated for, or win a Grammy Award,” the Academy declared per Billboard. “A work that contains no human authorship is not eligible in any category.”
“Heart on My Sleeve” has been submitted for Best Rap Song and Song of the Year.
Despite it not being an official song by Drake and The Weeknd, the song did well on streaming platforms. In a statement to Billboard, Universal Music Group said that the A.I. songs are a detriment to artists. They also added that streaming platforms need to take responsibility. They “demonstrate why platforms have a fundamental legal and ethical responsibility to prevent the use of their services in ways that harm artists.”
The creator goes by the name “Ghostwriter” which is a popular term for writers who give up the rights to be credited on the work but are financially compensated for it. They have not stopped since the success of “Heart On My Sleeve.” They recently created a song blending Travis Scott and 21 Savage.
“Heart On My Sleeve” has since been taken down, but the untitled A.I. song featuring Travis Scott and 21 Savage’s likeness is here.
