The Red Table Talk host revealed that she and Will Smith have been separated for seven years. The news comes as a shock to fans. Jada says that she didn’t know how to relay the information about her marriage.
“I think just not being ready yet, still trying to figure out between the two of us how to be in partnership and in regards to how do we present that to people,” she shared with Today’s Hoda Kotb.
The Girls Trip actress admitted the reason for the separation which started in 2016 was that they were “exhausted with trying.”
“I think we were both stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be,” she said.
While they might be separated, Jada says they are still working on their marriage.
“We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
The couple got married in 1997 and they share two children together: son Jaden Smith and daughter Willow Smith. Will also has a son, Trey Smith, with his ex-wife Sheree Zampino. They got divorced in 1995 after three years of marriage.
Will Smith Oscars Slap
Will and Jada were already separated for six years the night that the King Richard actor slapped Chris Rock for insulting Jada at the 2022 Oscars.
The day after the incident, the actor apologized to Rock and everyone affected in an Instagram post.
“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable,” it read. “Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear, and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong.”
He added: “I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air actor additionally apologized to The Academy, the attendees, the Williams family, and more. The actor added: “I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress.”
The Academy banned Will from all of their events for ten years following the Oscars slap.
