Lake In New England Is A Best For Water Sports In The U.S.
Summers in New England offer such a wide range of outdoor adventure opportunities that it’s hard to pick a favorite. From mountain hikes to ocean swims and everything in between, we have it all. USA Today’s 10BEST recently detailed the spots across the country with the lakes best for water sports, and a popular destination in this region made the list.
“If you love water sports, then you probably know the United States is home to some amazing lakes that are hubs for aquatic adventures,” 10BEST says.
It certainly seems like there are more watersport options now than ever before. Of course, there’s traditional waterskiing, tubing, and doing flips off the dock. However, now there are also innovative water-trampolines and rafts of all sizes that can take up hours of splash time.
It’s certainly hard not to think of boating and motorized watersports. Lakes across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont all have lakes where you can hop on a boat and cruise around. Luckily, I have spent two summer weeks at the New England lakeside spot that was named in 10BEST’s feature, and they were right on having them among the best for thrilling watersports.
Lake Champlain Ranked Among The Best For Water Sports In The U.S.
Whether you’re on the New York side or the Vermont side, Lake Champlain has the look and feel of a postcard. With the mountains in the background and the glow of the lake, it’s a very hard place to leave. The water is comfortably cold in temperatures and conducive to all sorts of watersports, from mellow floating to water surfing.
10BEST explained it by saying, “Using the charming town of Burlington as a base, newcomers can get accustomed to the Champlain shore atop a rental kayak or spend their day further out on a boat, enjoying water skiing, tubing, or wakeboarding.”
Where I’ve stayed in Vergennes, Vermont, if you go left out of the dock area, you can hit the most serene spots of the lake where you can enjoy standup paddle boarding or jet skiing. If you head out right, you can lay on the motorboat gas and zip away on the some best waterskiing coves I’ve ever navigated. Water surfing leverages the lake water a rider stands behind a powerboat and surfs the boat’s wake without being directly pulled by the boat. You need the proper boat and lake area to appropriately experience this thrill.
