Mega Millions Tickets Will Cost $5 Beginning in April 2025
Mega Millions released a mega announcement revealing that beginning in April 2025, tickets will go from $2 to $5.
The popular lottery game stated the significant price increase comes with a “‘mega’ overhaul with plans to be bigger and better than ever.” Mega Millions says with the new version, players will experience “improved odds to win the jackpot, bigger jackpots more frequently, larger starting jackpots, faster growing jackpots.”
Additionally, there will be a “built-in multiplier on every play,” which means every non-jackpot win has the chance to win a prize by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X. There will also be no more breakeven prizes anymore, so if you win a prize, you’re guaranteed to win more than the price of a ticket.
The Mega Millions Consortium said in a statement, “We are creating a game that both our existing players and people new to Mega Millions will love and get excited about playing. We expect more billion-dollar jackpots than ever before, meaning creating more billionaires and many more millionaires as the jackpots climb, plus this game will continue the important legacy of supporting great causes everywhere Mega Millions is played.”
A prize breakdown has not been released, but the built-in multiplier has players winning up to $10 million if they match all five white balls in a drawing.
New York Man Visits Massachusetts, Wins $1M Lottery Prize
A New York man visited Massachusetts recently and ended up winning $1 million from the Massachusetts State Lottery.
The Massachusetts State Lottery reports that Jose Carrasco of Corona, NY was in the state visiting a friend when he decided to pick up a “$100X Cash” instant ticket game. That $10 ticket ended up being a $1 million winner.
Carrasco, who’s a baker for a living, said he has no plans yet for his winnings. Since he opted for a one-time payment, Carrasco’s winnings will be $650,000 before taxes.
The Massachusetts State Lottery notes, “He purchased his winning ticket at American Food Markets, 1187 Blue Hill Ave. in Mattapan. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for its sale of this ticket.”
When it comes to the “$100X Cash” instant ticket game, all $1 million prizes have been won and claimed. The grand prize on the ticket is $4 million, and there are three $4 million grand prizes available. Two have been claimed, and as of publishing, one still remains.
While it seems like it should be unfair for there to be an out-of-state winner in a Massachusetts lottery game (especially someone from New York), nowhere on the state’s lottery website does it say prizes are only open to Massachusetts residents. In fact, on the “Claim a Prize” page, it simply states, in the case of Carrasco’s winning ticket, “Prizes over $103,000 must be claimed at Lottery Headquarters in Dorchester, MA. “
