Lil Durk Arrested In Florida On Murder-For-Hire Charges
Lil Durk (real name: Durk Banks) has been arrested in Florida on murder-for-hire charges, according to USA Today and other outlets. The 32-year-old rapper was arrested on Thursday and is currently being held in a Broward County, Florida jail.
According to USA Today, Durk’s arrest “comes after five people were hit with federal murder-for-hire charges for the alleged targeting of Georgia rapper Quando Rondo in retaliation for the murder of Chicago rapper King Von. Federal charges were filed against Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston, according to the indictment in US District Court in Los Angeles, obtained by the gossip site TMZ. This isn’t Durk’s first run-in with the law. According to Rolling Stone, he previously faced several charges related to a 2019 shooting, but those charges were dropped in 2022. Along with attempted murder, Lil Durk was facing counts of aggravated assault, participation in criminal street gang activity, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Last month, Durk wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Everybody should get second chances at life. It’s about what you do with it. Alhamdulillah! My background wiped and clean of all cases. Apparently, Lil Durks’s current indictment came as a result of information the authorities got via an informant. The Express Tribune reports that the informant is a member of Lil Durk’s OTF crew. They report that OTF member Jam allegedly wore a hidden wire for several years to gather evidence for authorities. Jam, who was released from prison in 2022 after serving 12 years for attempted murder, reportedly provided information directly linking Banks to the murder-for-hire scheme against Rondo, born Tyquian Terrel Bowman.
Fans online are noting that Lil Durks’ song “Federal Nightmares” predicted that something like this could happen. The lyrics include, “When trial come, it ain’t your phone, it be your homie though/He on the stand with his head down like he don’t know me though/It ain’t no point in gettin’ no lawyer if your homie told/He was with you on them late nights and them fast cars and them ski masks.”
Ironically, the arrest took place just days after Lil Durk received the keys to the city of Chicago.
