Boston Public Library Reveals Most Borrowed Books in 2024
The Boston Public Library shared its list of the most borrowed books in 2024, and it features a diverse variety of titles.
The most borrowed book of 2024 was Happy Place by Emily Henry. The novel is about Harriet and Wyn, a couple who are college sweethearts and are seen as the “perfect couple.” Unfortunately, Harriet and Wyn have broken up but never told their closest friends about their split. Harriet and Wyn, despite breaking up six months ago, pretend they’re still together for their yearly cottage getaway with their friends, because the cottage is being sold. Since it’s their last getaway, Harriet and Wyn hide the truth so as to not add further sadness to the situation.
In a statement to Boston.com, Chief of Collection Management Melissa Andrews said, “The most frequently borrowed titles of 2024 highlight personal stories of human resilience. This past year, readers gravitated toward narratives exploring real-life challenges – heartbreak, mental health, family dynamics, and personal growth, but particularly women’s stories. Nine out of the ten most frequently borrowed titles were written by women and tell stories that center on women’s experiences and inner lives across multiple settings, decades, and literary styles.”
