Tom Brady Tells Eagles’ MVP Jalen Hurts to Keep an Eye on Super Bowl Jersey
Tom Brady cautioned Jalen Hurts to keep his Super Bowl jersey safe, speaking from experience after his own jerseys worth $800,000 were swiped.
“It’s gonna take a while to process it. You’re gonna wake up tomorrow, and you’re gonna feel so good. What I want you to feel good about is — don’t let that jersey out of your sight. I had a few stolen over the years. So keep track of that. It’s gonna be memorable down the road,” Brady told Hurts.
After going through 20,000 credentials, FBI agents found the missing jerseys in Mexico. They caught Martin Mauricio Ortega, who had press access when he grabbed the jerseys from Super Bowl XLIX and LI.
The case cracked open thanks to an unlikely source. A young fan, Dylan Wagner, sent key photos to federal agents showing Ortega’s collection, which pointed right to the stolen jerseys.
Working with Mexican authorities, the NFL got back the valuable jerseys. “I am happy my jerseys from SB 49 and SB 51 have been recovered, and I want to thank all of the law enforcement agencies involved,” the quarterback told ESPN at the time.
Brady gave this heads-up to Hurts just moments after the Eagles’ win, where he named the quarterback MVP.
During their search, investigators looked at Fox’s broadcast footage to spot Ortega in action. The theft led to stricter security at major sporting events.
