The GetUp Crew

Wakanda Forever is out this weekend. And according to the reviews so far, it’s another great film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I really hope so because, as awesome as most of their films are, the MCU has also given us some stinkers. So here comes my science based, completely objective list of the BEST and WORST movies in the MCU up until now….

  • TOP 5 BEST - #1 - Avengers: Infinity War

Picture of the screen at Avengers Infinity War with all characters

PROS: Easily the best of all. The movie was Non stop action from beginning to end and had the greatest ending in MCU, Superhero or maybe even movie history! The bad guy won and the movie ended. Beautiful.

CONS: As great as it was, you couldn’t fully appreciate this movie for what it was if it was the first MCU movie you were exposed to.

  • #2 Avengers: Endgame

Background of the characters of Avengers Endgame

PROS: Ended a journey that spanned over a decade and over 20 movies in a satisfying way. The battles between Thanos and the Big 3 and the final battle with EVERYONE were both incredible and satisfying. Plus we got a ton of little nuggets like Captain America being worthy enough to carry Mjolnir and a glimps of how powerful Wanda could be when she faced off against Thanos.

CONS: Again, you’d be lost if this was your first MCU experience. Plus the fact that Thanos’ downfall all began w a random rat in a van irks me too.

  • #3 - Captain America: Civil War

Captain America shield with Captain America Civil War written on it

PROS: The battle between the good guys, the introduction of Black Panther and Spider-Man, me still not knowing which side I would choose to be on, the fact that the whole incident was started by a normal guy with no powers and Tony Starks iconic line “I don’t care, he killed my mom”.

CONS: No Hulk. Although if he was there, whatever team he’d be on (I’m sure Tony’s) would win.

  • #4 - Spider-Man: Homecoming

Tom Holland standing in front of a Spider-Man Homecoming sign

PROS: Spidey was my first favorite superhero and Tom Holland is my favorite of the movie Spidermen. Plus the Michael Keaton being Peter’s girlfriend’s dad twist and the fact that they showed that the messes caused by superhero battles have to be cleaned up after we’re both top notch.

    “Deploying high altitude vacuum seal”…

CONS: It didn’t bother me since I already know, but there’s someone out there that doesn’t know how Peter got his powers, and they don’t explain it in the movie.

  • #5 - Guardians of the Galaxy 1

Vin Diesel wearing an I Am Groot shirt in front of a Guardian's of the Galaxy background

PROS: Our first extended look into the MCU version of space, the first time an infinity stone was referred to as a stone, the first MCU movie that was more than 50% comedy but done right, a great classic soundtrack and Dave Bautista killed it as Drax.

CONS: I wasn’t a big fan of the big bad being defeated by a dance off distraction, but I couldn’t find much else wrong w this movie.

  • Honorable Mention - Dr. Strange

    Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange

PROS: Great intro story for a solid character. And we got an intro to an Infinity Stone.

CONS: Nothing immediately comes to mind. I don’t even mind that the Big Bad was defeated because he basically got frustrated and gave up.

  • BOTTOM 5 WORST - #5 - Eternals

Picture of the cast of Eternals with Eternals on a black background

CONS: It introduced too many new characters at once, and I didn’t care for any of them. The story was slow, boring and I was actually disappointed that they set up a sequel at the end…

PROS: When the credits rolled and the Blade tease…

  • #4 - Captain Marvel

Brie Larson as Captain Marvel in front of a Captain Marvel background

CONS: I can’t think of one particular thing, but it just didn’t do “it” for me. I was never fully invested into the movie at any point and it feels like it was just made because they needed Captain Marvel for Endgame.

PROS: The introduction of the Skrulls.

  • #3 - Iron Man 3

Robert Downey Jr. in front of an Iron Man 3 background

CONS: It was full of lots of twists and turns that I just didn’t care for.

PROS: The Tony Stark character development was cool, especially the PTSD stuff.

  • #2 - Thor: The Dark World

Chris Helmsworth next to a Thor The Dark World poster

The worst, by FAR, of all MCU movies where an infinity stone was introduced. The worst sequel, I wasn’t a fan of the story, the big bad didn’t do it for me and the first MCU film I struggled to finish watching…

PROS: It introduced an Infinity Stone, as goo…

  • And the ABSOLUTE WORST movie in the MCU so far is: Thor: Love and Thunder

The cast of Thor Love and Thunder on the Marvel studios red carpet with

CONS: Just pure absolute trash. It was a really bad comedy with minimal action and wasted what could have been a great story and great character by Christian Bale.

PROS: I don’t know. I guess the introduction of Hercules?? I’m really struggling here because I hated it that much…

  • Honorable Mention - Dr. Strange: Multiverse of Madness

Benedict Cumberbatch standing in front of his Dr. Strange costume

CONS: If it’s possible for a movie to do too much and at the same time not do enough, this is it. There was SO MUCH possibility as far the multiverse is concerned, but it fell flat. And where the hell was Vision? You’re telling me that with an infinite amount of universes to choose from, there’s not one where Wanda isn’t a single mom??

PROS: Wanda killing most of the Illuminati was cool.
