Which cities and towns have the best downtowns in America? One of them is right here in Massachusetts, the other is further north.
It’s always fun to pick through these lists, and it’s always a point of pride when something or someplace local makes the cut. Such is the case with this one from Attractions of America. It’s a list of the Top 20 Best Downtowns in America, and they set it up like this:
There’s no doubt about itโthe most interesting places in the United States are found downtown. No matter where you go, the big cities in the U.S.ย have fascinating downtown areas filled with amusement parks, hidden restaurant gems, and plenty of cultural excursions.
If itโs fun, education, and culture youโre after, then head downtown. Here are the top downtown areas in the United States. Get out and get exploring!
So, which two New England cities made the cut? You’ll be happy (and probably not too surprised) to learn that Boston landed on the list. As Attractions of America puts it: “One of the oldest settlements in North America, Boston is a rich blend of modern marvels and ancient treasures dating back to the 1600s.”
Of course, we already know that; we live here. Still, it is pretty wild that you can spend the afternoon walking the Freedom Trail or hanging out at Faneuil Hall–both steeped in history–then head over to the Seaport and spend your night clubbing and dining at Boston spots that are only a few years old.
The other New England spot on the list? Downtown Burlington, VT. Again, Attractions of America’s blurb: “an attractive mix of hip culture and old-time charm.” See where Boston and Burlington landed on the list below, and see what other cities made the cut, too.
