The sport of pickleball has become SO popular it’s now taken over Fenway Park. Now, through Sunday July 16, you can be a spectator to the world’s fastest growing sport, or you can pay to play. If you find yourself in a pickle with nothing to do this weekend, take the T over to Kenmore to see “the show.” Now playing at Fenway Park in Boston: Pickleball!

Been buried in mounds of work and completely out of the loop? You should know pickleball is a tennis-like sport played with a plastic ball (with holes). Picture this: If tennis, badminton and ping-pong had a baby, it’s name would be Pickle. It’s actually been around a long time, but some fires burn slowly. According to USA Pickleball , the sport was invented in 1965 and is played on what looks like a smaller tennis court. Many tennis courts have added additional lines for pickleball play.

With the Red Sox on the All-Star break and then on a road trip, the timing is perfect for the old ball park to get pickled. Fenway is now playing host to professional and amateur pickleball tournaments. They are offering courts for rent. Your rental gets you 80 minutes for a group of up to 10 people. According to the Sox website, 12 temporary courts are set up in the outfield. Pickleball at Fenway Park is in collaboration with Pickle4. Pickle4 is a recently formed organization. They’ve partnered with the US Open Pickleball Championships, which is focused on developing “America’s fastest growing sport.” Get all the info here.
