50 Cent: His Wholesome Advice To Drake
One of the biggest stories of the year in hip-hop has been the Kendrick Lamar/Drake beef. From the perspective of most fans, Kendrick Lamar was the clear winner.
50 Cent has had his share of beefs and he discussed Drake in an interview with Billboard. He noted that when you are so consistent for so long, as Drake has been, the public starts to turn on you. He said, “I didn’t see where what [Drake] did was wack at any point. They giving [Drake] the, ‘Oh you wack, you finished.’ I’m like, ‘Nah, come on.’ That’s the system trying to make some sort of resistance and it’s from the consistency. When you win consecutively, that part of the hip-hop demographic wants you out of there. I started to feel the resistance for the [2007] Curtis album.”
He shared a conversation that he had with Drake: “I was telling him, it’s not him. Don’t let yourself think that for a second. On some real s—, I said, ‘They said you lost, okay. Well, what did you lose?’ What exactly did he lose, if he got $300 something million on his last tour? You didn’t lose a motherf—ing thing, man. If that’s the moment, you keep your creative energy in the right place, and keep creating. If you slow down because you feel, ‘What the f—?’ The resistance will make you feel like your material isn’t good. Then you gotta figure out how to keep pushing, how to keep creating — because that’s what it feels like to you at the moment.”
He concluded, “That s— was good for hip-hop. It made both of them create quality material faster.” 50 also advised that it’s not good to respond to accusations of things that aren’t true, especially if it’s clear that those accusations bother you, because then the public and press want to talk about it even more.
50 Cent has had high-profile beefs with a number of rappers and celebrities including The Game, Kanye West, Ja Rule, Fat Joe and even Oprah Winfrey. He has beentrolling Diddy for a long time and is currently producing a docuseries about Diddy for Netflix.
In other news, 50 Cent recently announced a Vegas residency: he’s playing December 27, 28, 30, 31, January 3 and 4 at Planet Hollywood. Get ticket info here.
