This is a must see event! As we begin October, (or SHOCKTOBER) I have found the PERFECT entertainment for families, kids and adults alike. Take a short drive to Rhode Island to see 5000 carved, illuminated pumpkins! They are spheres of gory glory that will delight you and your family, as I know from experience! We go each year, as they change up the theme each Halloween season.
Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular!
See my pictures below to The Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular. It takes place each October at Roger Williams Park Zoo in Cranston, Rhode Island. We try to go each year, and it still seems to surprise us. This year, they are celebrating 75 years of television. So, I guess we’ll see a pumpkin that looks like Jimmy Fallon. I would guess the Tom Brady, Giselle pumpkin will feature a split down the middle? Forgive me, I couldn’t resist.
The event is a relaxing walk through the park at sunset. You can go as fast or slow as you want, and there’s food and drinks along the way. There are a couple restroom stops along the way as well. But it would be wise to click the link about to find out more information.
But, who started all of this pumpkin hoopla…?
Humble Beginnings of the Carved Pumpkin
According to Wikipedia: By those who made them, the lanterns were said to represent either spirits or supernatural beings. They were used to ward off evil spirits. For example, sometimes they were used by Halloween participants to frighten people. Sometimes they were set on windowsills to keep harmful spirits out of one’s home.[10] It has also been suggested that the jack-o’-lanterns originally represented Christian souls in purgatory, as Halloween is the eve of All Saints’ Day (1 November)/All Souls’ Day (2 November).[12]
