Expentant parents have SO many decisions to make. From strollers to cribs, formulas to childcare. One of the toughest decisions, and the one that attracts opinions, is the baby’s name. You like a name, but your family members think another option would be better. Everyone wants to chime in. If you need a little help deciding, consider consulting this list. Names.org just released it’s list of the top baby names for 2023. They listed each state and the popular girls and boys names. Some of the names unique to Massahusetts, and not as popular in other states, are Jack (has to be the Kennedy reference), Ella and Chloe.

The popularity of the name Benjamin fell this year, but it’s still in the top 10. Meanwhile, the #1 girl’s name has been at the top spot for the last 5 years! According to names.org, parents in Massachusetts tend to use historical references from our state, when picking a child’s name. They base the list on Social Security Administration data on births, along with user interest on their website. Take a look at the most popular baby names in Massachusetts 2023!

 

  • 1. Olivia and Noah

    Olivia is queen when it comes to girls names in Massachusetts. It’s been the most popular name the last 5 years, and is predicted to be #1 again by this year’s end. The most famous Olivia right now is actress (and former love interest of Harry Styles0, Olivia Wilde.

    Singer Noah Thompson was plucked out of obscurity to win American Idol last year.

  • 2. Charlotte and Liam

    Famous Charlotte’s include Princess Charlotte, daughter of William and Kate, and the popular Sex and the City character, Charlotte York (played by Kristin Davis).

    Who’s your favorite Emma? Stone, Watson, Roberts? These actresses are the most popular Emmas on a google search.

    The name Henry evokes historical references, from Henry VIII to Henry Ford, and Henry David Thoreaux. The  most famous modern day Henry may be actor Henry Cavill, of Superman fame.

    As for Jacks, here in Massachusetts, of course we think of Jack Kennedy, or writer Jack Kerouak (from Lowell).

    By far, the most famous Amelia is aviation pioneer and writer, Amelia Earhart, who lived in Medford for a number of years, and flew out of Squantam in Quincy.

    The name Mia is often associated with the Italian and Spanish word for “mine,” as in mia amore. Famous Mias are actress Mia Farrow and soccer icon, Mia Hamm.

    Theodore is a old school name that has made a big comeback in recent years. There’s a presidential ring to it, because of Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt. Popular actor Theo James, is a Theodore. He’s an English actor, director, producer and model, known for portraying the role of Tobias “Four” Eaton in The Divergent Series film trilogy

    The name Isabella gives you a few nickname options; Bella, Izzy, Isa or Belle. Actress and model Bella Hadid is an Isabella. Isabella Rosellini is a very popular Italian-American actress, author, philanthropist, and model, best known for being the Lancôme model and spokesperson.

    The name Chloe in Greek translates to “blooming.” And a couple of famous Chloes have booming careers, Chloe Sevigney and Chloe Grace Moretz.

    Really only one name comes to mind when you hear the name Ella. And that is the legendary queen of jazz. Ella Fitzgerald. “Lady Ella” was also known as the first lady of song.
