Frankly, I love a delicious frank. So I went searching of some of the best places to get them. I’m here to share a few places I discovered that are the best, coolest, old fashioned, heavenly hot dog stands in Massachusetts for you to enjoy in these dog days of summer.

I have a special affinity for the frank because of my mother. Growing up, she always told me that when she was pregnant with me she couldn’t get enough of the blended meat cylinder shaped treat on a bun with mustard. So, I always associated hot dogs with my mother. By the way, she still loves a tasty dog every now and then. And, so do I!

For as long as I can remember, on our family trips to the Cape, we’d always spend a day in Provincetown for a little shopping and a visit to John’s Foot Long Hot Dogs. I look forward to sinking my teeth into that delicious dog that sat in a buttery grilled bun. Heaven, sheer heaven.

Where Are The Hot Dog Stands In Massachusetts?

Thanks to Only in Massachusetts, these wonderful memories were sparked by their recent article about a few classic hot dog stands in Massachusetts that are still thriving. Here, I am able to share some of their favorites and add in one of my own.

You’ll find these hot dogs stands in Massachusetts all over the state. Take a trip to the Berkshires, head to the Cape or hop over to South Eastern Mass. These throw-back dog spots are still serving up your favorites. Have you ever been to any of the stands you see below. Maybe you know of one not mentioned here. Be sure and let me know so I can share with other hot dog appreciators.

  • Jack's Hot Dog Stand, North Adams

Ok, so North Adams is a bit of a hike, but I highly recommend a road trip and over night stay in the Berkshires this summer. We did it a few years ago and had an awesome visit. There is fantastic hiking, views for days and great lodging and restaurants. Only in Massachusetts reports that Jack’s has been around for over 100 years! So yeah, this stand has stands the test of time! Jacks has been owned by the same family since 1917, which is a true testament to their food. They serve super affordable, fast and fun lunch and dinner items. They even have a website!  By the way a hot dog will set you back all of $1.95!

George’s Coney Island is likely the most famous of the bunch here. It’s been written about and featured on TV. When you’ve been doing it over 100 years, you know how to do it right. The restaurant was renovated in 1938 to a utilitarian art deco style and that’s what you see today. Get the George’s signature dog with a side favorite like homemade mac & cheese or baked beans. You can’t miss their famous neon sign, at 158 Southbridge St in Worcester, that was modeled after George holding a hot dog in his hand.

  • John's Footlong, Provincetown

At John’s Footlong in P-Town they’ve been in the dog business since 1961 in the heart of Commercial Street. The name comes from the original owner, John Grace. The footlong grilled goodness that is a John’s Footlong is the main attraction here. But, you can get fresh lobster rolls, Portuguese rice, fried scallops and those perfectly fried onion rings (among many other menu items).
