‘Tis the season for ice cream in Mass. Although, this study will tell you that EVERY season is ice cream season in Massachusetts.

You won’t get an argument for me. After years of being an ice cream hater (OK, not really a hater: I just didn’t love ice cream as much as other sweets), I had kids. And when you have kids, you go out for ice cream. At least you do when you have my kids. So ice cream, over the years, has transcended “sweet treat” status and become a bonding experience between me and my kids.

I have fond memories of stopping at Raymond’s Frozen Custard in Casco, ME as my kids and I make our way to our destination in the Lake Region. Once there, we’re regulars at Long Lake Creamery, grabbing a cone in between dips in the lake. Here at home in Massachusetts, my youngest and I have become regulars at Wakefield’s Cravings at Colonial Spa, which is my favorite ice cream shop.

And we’re not alone. Bet Massachusetts crunched the cones, er, numbers and asked: Where Does Massachusetts Rank as an Ice Cream State? Turns out we rank pretty damn high. Their team used Google Trends to analyze ice cream flavor search volume to find out what states are the most ice cream crazy.

Not only did Massachusetts land in the Top 5, but three other New England states landed in the Top 10, with one New England state topping the entire list. Mmmmm…topping. I’ll take butterscotch. Sorry. Thinking about ice cream, got distracted. Grab your spoon and dig into the study here, then get the scoop on which states were sprinkled into the Top 10. I might have to take a trip to Friendly’s soon.
