What is it about french fries? I don’t know one person who doesn’t like them. Of course, there are some fries that are better than others. If you are seeking out the best in our area. You’ve come to the right place. Find out, here, where to get the best french fries in Massachusetts, and all New England States.

Like art, french fries are subjective. I like mine crispy, well seasoned and on the thin side. My husband likes those big steak fries with plenty of fluff on the inside. Remember when you were a kid and you based all french fry goodness on the standard of the king of fries, McDonald’s? If your mom tried to make homemade fries, they never held up to the Mickey D’s standard. And those greasy little frites still hold up today. But, our taste buds most definitely mature.

What Makes a Winner?

Below, you will find the best of the best, according to a survey done by Love Food. You’ll find where to get the best french fries in Massachusetts, and the all New England states. According to their website, the findings are based on “genuine user reviews, awards and accolades, and the first-hand experience of our team. They’re also regularly checked and updated.”

I don’t know about you, but I find that what you pair the fries with also makes a difference. For me, there’s something about fries with a cold beer. Have you ever had french fries with French onion soup? So good! And presentation can certainly factor into it. I love seeing the seasoning on the fries. But when it comes down to the nitty gritty, it’s all about the potato and how it’s fried.

These winning restaurants take that extra step to insure freshness and crunchiness. So, let’s find out exactly which restaurant in Massachusetts ranked the best spot for french fries. And if you live in, or often visit, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont, I’ve included the winning places in those states.

    Saus

2 locations: 33 Union St.Boston and 1 Bow Market Way, Somerville

And the winner is… Saus! Love Food raved about these outstanding french fries, saying: “The fries at Saus are inspired by those sold on pretty much every street corner and square in Belgium, but with a twist: the potatoes are cut relatively thick. This results in an extremely crunchy exterior and a fluffy, almost cloud-like interior. Throw on some perfectly balanced seasoning, and you have a winner.”

By the way, you can get these fabulous fries at either of their locations, in downtown Boston or at Bow Market in Somerville. They serve made from scratch food and craft beer. The setting is super casual.

  • New Hampshire

    The Puritan Backroom

The Open Table 2023 Diner’s Choice winner is known for their hand-cut Frites with aioli and their parmesan truffled frites with aioli. Their names alone make me want to take a road trip. It’s an American Brasserie that serves “refined comfort food with an upscale French influence.” Love Food declares “they live up to the billing of ‘Rhode Island’s favorite!’
