Bank Calls Cops On Black Man For Having A Large Paycheck
A man in Cleveland claims he was racially profiled after cops were called in as he tried to cash his paycheck.
Paul McCowns had just started working with the electric company about three weeks earlier and received his first check in the sum of $1,000. As a non-customer of the bank, McCowns was asked to provide two forms of ID and give a fingerprint.
Even though he did, the teller decided not to give McCowns his money.
Upon leaving the branch, the police picked him up and held him until they could confirm with his employer that the check wasn’t fraudulent.
Huntington Bank released a statement apologizing for the incident, blaming the tellers for being “hyper vigilant”.
