Today (Mar. 15), Anderson .Paak released his new single, “King James.”

Yesterday, the hip-hop/R&B/soul artist tweeted about the single’s release as well as his new upcoming album, Ventura. “King James” is a funky jazz-heavy track which Anderson .Paak covers a myriad of serious topics on. On the track, he sings about the United States’ border wall construction, NFL players kneeling during the national anthem, and black empowerment. The song’s title is a nod to Los Angeles Laker’s player Lebron James.

Brandy, Andre 3000, Jazmine Sullivan, Smokey Robinson, and Nate Dogg, who died eight years ago today, can all be found on .Paak’s new upcoming album Ventura. It drops on Apr. 12.

Four months ago, the artist released his latest project, Oxnard.
