EW has confirmed the superstar rapper will go undercover as an elderly woman in her first leading role in a major motion picture, playing a small-time crook turned master of impersonation in the upcoming Paramount comedy Assisted Living.

With the original spec script penned by This Is Us writer Kay Oyegun, the film is billed as a “star-vehicle comedy” in the vein of Sister Act, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Tootsie, with the “WAP” recording artist playing a petty criminal, Amber, who hatches her undercover plot after a heist goes wrong.

On the run from both the cops and her former crew, Amber has trouble finding a place to hide, but her new disguise allows her to take up residence in the one place where no one will find her: her grandmother’s nursing home.

Temple Hill and Stephen Love are producing for Paramount, which won the rights to the script in a competitive bidding war in early 2019.

Prior to joining Assisted Living, Cardi B had a small role in Jennifer Lopez’s 2019 hit Hustlers, while she also served as a judge on Netflix’s unscripted music competition series Rhythm + Flow. Before rising the charts with rap hits like “Bodak Yellow” and “I Like It,” Cardi B got her start as a reality TV personality on the VH1 series Love and Hip-Hop.
