Nicki Minaj is in hot water with fans. The Pink Friday 2 rapper is being criticized after saying Megan Thee Stallion "wanted to have a Rihanna moment," referring to the "Diamonds" singer's domestic abuse at the hands of then-boyfriend Chris Brown  and Megan's 2020 Tory Lanez shooting that landed the "Say It" rapper ten years behind bars.

In a Twitter Spaces on Wednesday (Jan. 31), Nicki explained how Rihanna presented herself after the Brown incident in 2009 is the opposite of how Megan is handling hers--essentially blaming the "Savage" rapper for how she decides to cope with her own trauma.

"But here’s the thing — Rihanna is just known for being herself," Nicki said. "You get what you see, you see what you get type of vibe. I’m not talking about anything anyone spoke to me about, I’m saying that’s what we know Rih as. Rihanna never would milk something like this. You could tell she couldn’t wait to get that part of her life — You could tell she couldn’t wait to just try to move on with her life. You understand?"

She continued: "And then people even bashed her for not dragging it out, not milking it, and she was just like, ‘Yo, I was mad young. I just wanna move on with my life now, yo.’ You know why? Because Rihanna knows that she was a superstar with or without controversy. She’s beautiful with or without controversy. She’s loved with or without controversy. I’m sorry — sympathy."

Fans React To Nicki Minaj's Comments

Fans did not hesitate to gather Nicki for her comments about Rihanna and Megan Thee Stallion.

"Nicki Minaj really is a despicable human being, but an even worse woman. I’m disgusted but not shocked she’d chalk Meg discussing her abuse up to 'wanting a Rihanna moment' because this is a woman who harassed the woman her husband raped, defends her brother molesting a child ETC," a fan wrote referring to Nicki's husband Kenneth Petty who served four years in prison for attempted rape in 1994. The rapper's older brother, Jelani Maraj, was sentenced to 25 years to life for predatory sexual assault in 2020. He was arrested in 2015 and, in 2017, found guilty of raping an 11-year-old girl at a Long Island home.

"She is comparing Rihanna’s abuse to Megan being shot. A black woman telling another how to grieve," another fan wrote. "Nicki Minaj needs to stop and her clones need to tell her to stop. This 6 year sympathy tour she been on is sad."

"Nicki Minaj saying 'Meg just wanted a Rihanna moment' is a new low for her," another fan responded. "It’s not a DV contest. These women were violently assaulted, and they are much more than what happened to them. How disgusting of her."

Why Are Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj Feuding?

The attack on Megan stems from the rapper's current feud with each other, trading diss tracks at one another. The Houston native released "HISS" on Friday (Jan. 26) which had the line: "These hoes don't be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan's Law," Megan raps on "HISS." The line was used as a diss towards Nicki Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender.

Nicki followed up with "Big Foot" on Monday (Jan. 29). "Bad bitch she like six foot, I call her Big Foot/ The bitch fell off, I said get up on your good foot," she rapped.

The bar refers to Tory Lanez shooting Megan in the foot in July 2020. He was sentenced to ten years in prison last August for the crime.

It's hard to believe that these albums will be celebrating their fifth anniversary. Many projects on this list cemented artists' placement in hip-hop while others had an unfortunate downfall in the coming years.

Megan Thee Stallion is one of the artists on this list who has continued flourishing. That year, Megan Thee Stallion released her first commercial mixtape, Fever. However, she was already heating up on the internet with the release of her two prior mixtapes and her viral freestyles (if you know, you know).

"Big Ole Freak," which was released a year prior to Fever, was the rapper's breakout hit and her first certified platinum record.

Since then, Megan has been keeping busy in the studio and has released two full-length projects. Her debut album, Good News, arrived in 2020 with hits such as "Body," "Girls in the Hood," and "Savage Remix" featuring Beyoncé. The track was nominated for "Record of the Year," and it took home the Grammy for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. Megan also snagged Best New Artist that year.

"Writing this album, I treated it more like writing in my diary than actually trying to put together a song," the rapper said on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. "I just want to talk about how I really feel and get personal with my hotties."

What Is Megan Thee Stallion Doing Now?

In 2023, Megan released "Cobra," where she addressed the loss of her parents, the 2020 shooting incident by Tory Lanez, and her ex-boyfriend Pardison Fontaine's alleged cheating. She also was featured on Cardi B's "Bongos," and did a collab with Renée Rapp titled "Not My Fault" for the Mean Girls soundtrack.

As for 2024, she said that a new project is on the way which will be funded by herself since leaving her label.

"This part of my album is very much so funded by Megan Thee Stallion because we’re trying to get off… Y’all know what’s the tea. But I have no label right now," she explained on Instagram Live. "We’re doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pockets. So, the budget is coming from me. Motherf—ing Hot Girl Productions! The next s— y’all about to see is all straight from Megan Thee Stallion’s brain and Megan Thee Stallion’s wallet. We are in my pockets, hotties, so let’s do our big one."

"It’s really just me this go around until we sign to a new label. But I don’t want to sign to a new label right now because I just want to do it myself," she shared.

Take a look at these projects from 2019 that were so good that we still listen to them today:
