Boston’s St. Francis House Marks 40 Years of Serving Hope, Meals to Those in Need
On Christmas Day, 40 volunteers at St. Francis House in Boston rolled up their sleeves to serve a Christmas meal for the community’s less fortunate. This year marked the nonprofit’s 40th year of bringing hope and joy to the needy.
Guests enjoyed baked stuffed chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, squash, and salad, all served by volunteers to individuals struggling with homelessness this Christmas in the Boston community.
“Christmas is one of the most special days of the year at St. Francis House, but it’s also somewhat bittersweet. A lot of our guests are remembering Christmases past when the days were better for them,” said Karen LaFracia, the nonprofit’s president and CEO, in an interview with NBC10 Boston.
“Last year, I was sleeping on the floor across the street during the day while I slept at the park at night. And just to be able to come in here and be in a safe environment…,” said Kelly Corson to NBC10 Boston.
The annual Christmas dinner is one of several events throughout the year that St. Francis House organizes with volunteer support. To get involved, visit the St. Francis House website or call 617-542-4211.
