Your Favorite Cape Cod Towns

I asked. You answered. And just in time for Memorial Day, and summer vacation considerations. Your favorite Cape Cod towns ranged from just over the bridge in Falmouth. to the very end of the peninsula in Provincetown.

“If you’re fond of sand dunes and salty air, quaint little villages here and there…You’re sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod,” as Patty Paige sang. The Cape has an ocean of all of the above, which is why it’s such a popular destination. From one town to the next there’s much to fall in love with. But our Country 1025 listeners have spoken about their favorites.

Early this week, I posed the question on our Facebook page, “what’s your favorite Cape Cod town?” The responses came flooding in. It was great to see such passion for places you’ve spent as kids, with your kids now, or maybe just weekend getaways you’ve enjoyed. It definitley triggered memories for some, and desire for others to check out new destinations.

So, here are they are. Your favorite Cape Cod towns

  • 1. Dennis

    The overwhelming winner in this unofficial poll was the town of Dennis! Specifically, the area of Dennis Port was mentioned above all others. Could it be Mayflower Beach that is the draw? The Cape Cod Rail Trail? The Cape Cod Museum of Art? Or perhaps it’s “world renowned” Cape Cinema, with it’s music and film series. Find out more about this picturesque town HERE.

  • 2. Yarmouth

    From South Yarmouth to West Yarmouth, Yarmouth Port and in between, you love this town for it’s oceanside and bayside beaches. People flock to Bass River and Great Island, Gray’s Beach Boardwalk and the Captain’s Mile with it’s more than 50 historic homes. It’s a family friendly town with plenty of fun attractions for kids and grown ups, from an inflatable park to 4 golf courses. Plenty more HERE. 

  • 3. Sandwich

    Cape Cod’s oldest town is a quintisential New England town filled with charm. Sandwich is just over the Sagamore Bridge making it convenient for those of us in the Boston area. Famous for it’s glass blowing, pottery, artisans and museums. It also boasts an iconic boardwalk, miles of hiking trails, ponds, restaurants and shopping.

  • 4. Eastham

    Pronounced East- Ham not East-um, this tiny town earned it’s votes primarily for it’s beaches, which on the ocean side are part of the National Seashore.  Coast Guard Beach earns accolades every year as one of America’s best beaches. Nauset Light Beach up the street is famous for it’s highly recogonizable red and white Light House that has guided ships at sea home for generations. Oh, yeah and there are those potato chips. The light house on the millions of bags of Cape Cod Potato Chips is taken from Nauset Light Beach, where I have spent my life visiting. Walking trails and the bike path are also very popular.   • 5. Provincetown

    The tourism page for P-Town sums up this highly popular destination perfectly, “ Visitors are drawn to this remote swatch of land for the beautiful beaches and the welcoming restaurants, the art galleries,  charming and luxurious guesthouses and boutique inns and the charming shops.” Exactly. Great shopping, great food, stunning beaches and they left out, fantastic people watching. Provincetown is easily accessible from Boston via the ferry. Definitely a fun day trip or week long getaway. 

  • 6. Orleans

    Named one of the “Happiest Seaside Towns in America” in 2017 (ranking #2), Orleans surprisingly earned more votes then the more well-known, neighboring town of Chatham. Perhaps because Chatham is more expensive to stay. Or perhaps it’s the popularity of Nauset Beach in Orleans, or (Not to be confused with Nauset Light Beach, a few miles down the stretch in Eastham). Orleans is more of a year-round town and is home to several year round popular restaurants. The 4th of July fireworks at Rock Harbor Beach bring  in thouands of visitors every year. The town is filled with boutique shops and the arts are everywhere, from the Academy of Performing Arts to the Artist Cottages, a collection of wooden huts where artisans can display and sell their works. Orleans is also home to the Cape Cod Baseball League’s Firebirds team. Learn more about Orleans HERE.

    Zoey loves the beach as much as I do, and the Cape has quite a few dog friendly beaches!
