Missy Elliott Is The First Female Rapper Inducted Into The Songwriters Hall Of Fame! (VIDEOS & PICS)
“Last night my heart was full.” Missy Elliott was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame with some help from some fellow phenomenal women… Michelle Obama, Queen Latifah, Da Brat and Lizzo!
Missy Elliott posted these moments from last night’s Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony which included a heartfelt pre-recorded video message from Michelle Obama, a performance of Missy’s “Sock It 2 Me” from Lizzo and Da Brat and loving words from Queen Latifah who did the induction honors!
According to the Associated Press, Missy Elliott’s ten minute speech included these words: “I am thankful. Every time I come up to a podium … even with all the work that I’ve done, I don’t know, and I’m assuming it’s just God, I don’t know why I am here. I want to say one thing to the writers, to the upcoming writers, ‘Do not give up.’ We all go through writer’s block. Sometimes you just have to walk away from a record and come back to it. But don’t give up because I’m standing here. And this is big for hip-hop, too.” Congratulations to Missy Elliott on this well-deserved honor!
