Why The Most Dangerous Day Of The Year For Your Phone Is The 4th Of July
The most dangerous day of the year for your phone is coming. The summertime is the worst season for your phone, and when it comes to one day in particular, it’s the 4th of July. Here’s why it’s so dangerous and what you need to look out for to keep your phone safe.
Why Summer Is Dangerous For Your Phone
Summer is a fun time of year, but it’s also the toughest on your phone. That’s according to tech care company Asurion. They say that more phones are lost, stolen, and damaged during the summer months than any other time of the year.
They looked at repair data from their nearly 700 uBreakiFix® by Asurion stores, and also claims from their data protection plans. From those, they saw a 50% increase in water-related phone issues last year, when you compare it to the rest of the year. There was also an almost 15% surge in cracked screens and battery issues, which they say are often related. And besides damage, Asurion says they see a close to 50% rise in unrecoverable phones. Those would include phones dropped in the ocean, off a cliff, or anywhere else that they can’t be recovered.
And it’s not just phones. Laptops can get water on them from the pool, game consoles can overheat because they’re used more in the summer, and e-readers get lost at the beach. They call it the “summer surge.” And in that summer surge is the most dangerous day of the year for your phone. Read on.
Bettie Colombo is the Asurion Senior Director of Corporate Communications and says “Everyone is spending more time out and about, hiking, biking, kayaking, boating, hanging poolside and so on, always with their phones in tow – and often other devices, too. As you’d expect, accidents happen. As phones have become more durable, people have become more adventurous with them – but they’re not indestructible, nor are they fully waterproof, so we continue to see many of the same issues.”
Why The 4th Of July Is The Most Dangerous Day Of The Year For Your Phone
When it comes to the most dangerous day of the year for your phone, the 4th of July comes out on top. For more than five years, Asurion says that there have been more accidents on the 4th than any other day of the year. And last year, they reported 42% more phone accidents on the 4th than any other average day.
Why? People are around water, hosting BBQs, out watching fireworks, and let’s face it, there’s usually a lot of drinking involved. That is not an official statement by Asurion, I just threw that one in myself and I’m sure we can agree on that. Phones go missing in crowds, get dropped, on the ground, overheated, etc.
The 4th of July is coming up soon, so be safe out there to avoid the most dangerous day of the year for your phone.
