Good News: Robot Helps Student Fighting Cancer Connect with Classmates
Seventeen-year-old William Reccoppa from Long Island was diagnosed with leukemia last May and hasn’t been able to go to school while he undergoes treatment. But, thanks to technology, he’s been able to return in a different way, through a robot.
The $6,000 robot was donated and has a video of William where there would be a face, and rolls through the halls and into the classroom. His sister Maria is excited because she can walk her brother to class again.
William operates the robot from his family’s apartment and says that while he’s still feeling the side effects of chemo, he does plan to graduate on time and go to NYU.
